Zanzibar- [September 09, 2026]:
Zanzibar continues to strengthen its position as one of Africa’s leading tourism and investment destinations, securing three major titles at the 2026 World Travel Awards. The islands were named:
- Africa’s Leading Beach Destination
- Africa’s Leading Festival & Event Destination
- Africa’s Leading Regional Tourist Board
The recognition comes as Zanzibar experiences strong and sustained growth in international tourism. The islands welcomed a record 917,167 visitors in 2025, up from 736,755 in 2024, marking one of the strongest years of tourism growth in the destination’s history.
Momentum has continued into 2026, with approximately 508,747 international arrivals recorded between January and July. July was particularly strong, with 107,801 visitors, the highest number ever recorded for the month in Zanzibar.
For investors and property owners, this continued growth is significant. Rising visitor numbers, stronger international visibility and expanding tourism activity are contributing to demand for high-quality accommodation, hospitality experiences, residential properties and supporting infrastructure across the islands.
The World Travel Awards recognition further reinforces Zanzibar’s international profile at a time when the destination is diversifying its tourism offering beyond traditional beach holidays and attracting greater interest from international travellers and investors.
